Dan Jones was a Welsh steamboat captain who joined the LDS Church in 1843 and became a close friend of Joseph Smith. The night before Smith was assassinated in 1844, he gave Jones a final prophecy: that Jones would survive and return to Wales as a missionary. Jones fulfilled this prophecy by returning to his homeland, where his powerful preaching and extensive Welsh-language publications converted an estimated 5,000 people.
